About the position

The Assistant Manager, Credit Risk & Decision Science role at Navy Federal Credit Union involves leading a team of data scientists to develop and implement analytical solutions that enhance underwriting policies across various lending products. This position focuses on optimizing credit card account management strategies and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while leveraging advanced analytics and machine learning techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development of underwriting, account management, and optimization models to optimize lending decisions for all lending products.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of credit bureau data, tools and initiatives, and advancements in machine learning and AI to improve Lending's credit decisions.
  • Lead efforts to optimize business operation performance by analyzing current and forecasting future performance to support strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and Navy Federal policies and procedures.
  • Manage and lead the simulation and optimization of credit policy decisions utilizing various profit/loss scenarios to ascertain current/future financial impact; make appropriate recommendations.
  • Participate in organization-wide project teams; monitor projects assigned to the department and ensure milestones are completed on schedule.
  • Assist with developing and implementing new/updated policies, procedures, goals, and priorities as necessitated by demands, changing conditions, and/or management request.
  • Leverage operations research techniques to optimize the performance of Lending's products and operations.
  • Maintain understanding of business direction, environment, and strategies and work closely with stakeholders to ensure analytic output addresses business needs.
  • Assist with evaluating/developing/implementing analytical techniques and best practices to gain a competitive advantage.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop analytical talent.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in leading and managing an analytics operation in a large financial services organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations governing Consumer/Credit Card Lending.
  • Significant experience in the use of statistical modeling software and applications.
  • Working knowledge of banking/financial industry trends, products, and services.
  • Significant experience demonstrating thought-leadership, initiative-taking, decision-making, and creativity in solving business problems.
  • Significant experience managing multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment to achieve goals.
  • Significant experience in working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and vendors.
  • Significant experience delivering presentations to virtual and in-person teams.
  • Significant experience supervising and leading professional employees.
  • Advanced research, data mining/querying, analysis, and reporting skills, including proficiency in sophisticated statistical methods, optimization modeling, forecasting, and cost/benefit/risk analysis.
  • Expert analytical/quantitative and deductive reasoning skills.
  • Advanced skill in results-oriented leadership in a challenging environment.
  • Advanced skill in project management, including establishing and leading project teams, managing timelines/deadlines/resources, and ensuring successful project implementation.
  • Advanced skill in presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives, and information clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced organizational, planning, and time management skills.
