About the position

The Assistant Manager of the Payroll Office at Rhode Island College is responsible for supervising daily payroll operations, ensuring accurate processing of payroll data, and maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures. This role involves collaboration with various departments, oversight of payroll staff, and participation in system enhancements to improve payroll functions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations and functions of the payroll office.
  • Communicate with State Payroll, State Personnel, Human Resources, Accounting, and Financial Aid Offices to resolve operational issues.
  • Process and maintain all state biweekly payrolls, including time entry and employee transactions.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of internal payroll data flow through the college's payroll system.
  • Assist in maintaining the Time and Labor module for non-classified employees.
  • Provide direction and instruction to payroll employees and campus users on integrated HR/Payroll systems.
  • Coordinate with Accounting to process overload and adjunct payroll contracts.
  • Participate in testing and implementation of computer system enhancements for payroll software.
  • Assist with reconciliation of payroll accounting data and support third-party vendors for direct deposit activities.
  • Train newly hired staff and maintain training manuals for payroll processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least two years of professional experience in a payroll environment.
  • Demonstrated training and supervisory experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Experience in a college or university setting.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft/Oracle or similar ERP systems.
  • Bilingual capabilities.
