About the position

The Assistant Manager Program II for Criminal Courts in Tarrant County, TX, is responsible for managing mental health programs supervised by the Criminal Courts. This role involves overseeing the mental competency processes and program outcomes for the Mental Health Diversion Court, acting as a liaison among various stakeholders, and ensuring effective program operations. The position requires coordination of services for inmates with mental health issues and involves significant interaction with jail staff, evaluators, clinical providers, judges, and attorneys.

Responsibilities

  • Manage mental health programs supervised by Criminal Courts.
  • Oversee and report on the Court's mental competency processes and program outcomes.
  • Act as a liaison for the Enhanced Mental Health Court.
  • Coordinate services for inmates with mental illness or intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Monitor and document changes in defendants' conditions and needs throughout the competency assessment process.
  • Educate stakeholders on competency processes to improve system coordination and treatment outcomes.
  • Facilitate timely scheduling of hearings for defendants returning from state hospitals or other facilities.
  • Coordinate progress of mentally impaired defendants on pretrial supervision.
  • Serve as a resource for courts and attorneys in preparing treatment and services plans.
  • Attend and document outcomes of medication hearings for defendants under commitment orders.
  • Arrange transportation to treatment facilities and release to family members when necessary.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with local behavioral health authorities and other stakeholders to facilitate case actions and care plans.
  • Monitor and facilitate the transfer of cases to appropriate courts and treatment programs.
  • Prepare program placement evaluations for the Criminal District Attorney's Office.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to generate and monitor service plans for defendants' transitions back to the community.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work or a related mental health field.
  • Minimum of two years of full-time administrative or case management experience.
  • Current and valid driver's license.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong writing, communication, coordinating, and networking skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to relay situations accurately.
  • Working knowledge of mental health, civil courts, and criminal justice systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to management of persons with substance abuse and/or mental illness.
  • Experience in creating professional records including case plans and reports.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with county employees, attorneys, and provider agencies.
