About the position

The Assistant Shop Manager (ASM) at Take 5 Oil Change plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the shop while also providing exceptional customer service. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about leading a team and delivering a hassle-free oil change experience to customers. The ASM will spend approximately 80% of their time performing technician duties, which include changing oil, replacing filters, and conducting light maintenance services. The remaining time will be dedicated to learning the managerial skills necessary to oversee the shop in the absence of the Shop Manager. This role is ideal for those who enjoy a fast-paced environment similar to that of restaurants or retail, and who thrive on interacting with customers and team members alike. In addition to technical skills, the ASM is responsible for maintaining shop cleanliness, managing inventory levels, and ensuring that customers leave with a positive experience. The position requires a proactive approach to customer service, including checking in with customers before they leave to ensure satisfaction. The ASM will also assist with opening and closing procedures and may help with inventory adjustments. This role is a stepping stone for those looking to advance their careers within the Take 5 family, as many Shop Managers started as Lube Techs. Responsibilities

  • Perform all technician duties including changing oil, replacing filters, and conducting light maintenance services.
  • Drain motor oil and change oil filters.
  • Grease chassis fittings and wash windshields.
  • Adjust tire pressure and inspect/top off fluids.
  • Assist customers in selecting oil types and other services.
  • Process payments for services performed.
  • Perform coolant exchanges and transmission drain & fill services.
  • Restock and maintain inventory levels on the floor.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the shop, office, and bathroom.
  • Check in with customers before they leave to ensure a great experience.
  • Ensure proper operation of the store in the absence of the Shop Manager.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures.
  • Assist with counting and adjusting inventory.
  • Act as a role model to other employees in the shop.

Requirements

  • Experience in oil change services or similar technical roles.
  • Leadership experience in a customer service environment.
  • Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory role.
