About the position

As an Assistant Manager at Applebee's, you will play a crucial role in managing the restaurant environment and ensuring that all operations run smoothly. This position requires a commitment to providing prompt and friendly service in accordance with company guidelines. You will be responsible for directing the overall activities and performance of associates, ensuring that guest complaints are addressed promptly, and maintaining high standards of customer satisfaction through regular table visits. Your role will also involve managing inventory levels, ensuring product preparation meets company standards, and scheduling associates effectively to meet sales demands. Safety and security are paramount, and you will be expected to maintain effective safety programs and correct any unsafe practices or conditions that arise. In addition to managing the restaurant environment, you will also oversee associate performance. This includes promoting quality recruitment, conducting training sessions, and providing regular feedback to associates on their performance. You will be responsible for determining job assignments, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions for hourly employees. Your leadership will foster an environment of continuous development, ensuring that all associates are well-trained and compliant with company policies. You will also maintain controls over your designated department, managing costs and inventory while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Reporting on restaurant performance objectives and executing cash handling procedures will be part of your responsibilities. As an Assistant Manager, you will be expected to demonstrate strong organizational skills, complete assignments on schedule, and serve as a role model for both managers and associates. Your professionalism and ethical standards will be evaluated alongside your ability to perform essential job functions, making it vital to represent the organization positively both inside and outside the restaurant.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the restaurant environment to ensure prompt, friendly service according to company guidelines.
  • Direct overall activities and performance of associates.
  • Ensure immediate response and correction of all verbal guest complaints.
  • Maintain guest contact and satisfaction through 100% table visits.
  • Responsible for the Responsible Service of Alcohol through associate training and guest interaction.
  • Maintain adequate departmental inventory levels.
  • Ensure product preparation and presentation meet company standards.
  • Effectively schedule associates to meet sales demands.
  • Maintain effective safety and security programs according to company policy and government standards.
  • Promote and manage restaurant organization, cleanliness, and sanitation.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inform GM of needed repairs.
  • Communicate with other managers daily through management log and shift change meetings.
  • Promote quality recruitment and referrals of potential management candidates.
  • Help maintain a trained staff through effective use of employment orientation and training sessions.
  • Determine job assignments on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • Develop an environment of constant development of associates.
  • Conduct thorough Applebee's approved interviews and make hiring decisions related to hourly employees.
  • Ensure immediate response to all employee complaints and take steps to address them.
  • Monitor acceptable associate performance and document situations that require corrective action.
  • Make recommendations regarding the promotion of hourly employees.
  • Assure compliance with company policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Responsible for a designated department of the restaurant and control costs in assigned department.
  • Maintain and control the assets of the company and assure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Report progress towards achieving restaurant performance objectives at management meetings.

Requirements

  • Prior management experience in a similar organization.
  • Minimum of two years restaurant management or related experience with an emphasis on building sales, managing inventory, customer relations, and personnel management.
  • High school diploma or GED is required; college degree in related fields may be considered in lieu of required experience.
  • Certification and completion of Applebee's Management Training Program(s) and the established Applebee's Manager-in-Training (MIT) program is required.
  • Proficiency in the use of all restaurant equipment and handling all business/administrative, management, technical, and training aspects of both the Front of House and the Back of House.
