About the position

The Assistant Managing Attorney at Northeast New Jersey Legal Services (NNJLS) will supervise the Public Benefits Unit, ensuring effective delivery of legal services to low-income residents. This full-time position includes a hybrid work schedule and involves overseeing case handlers, providing training, and maintaining a caseload while participating in community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the work of all unit case handlers including paralegals.
  • Design and implement unit priorities and case handling protocols.
  • Provide training to new attorneys.
  • Oversee the overall performance and day-to-day activities of the unit.
  • Participate in community education and outreach.
  • Maintain a caseload and provide legal representation.

Requirements

  • Admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey.
  • At least three years of Public Benefits Law practice experience.
  • Excellent writing and oral advocacy skills.
  • Prior Legal Services experience or a demonstrated commitment to legal assistance for the disadvantaged is preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience is a plus.
