About the position

The Assistant Mechanical Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams in creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across a variety of sectors including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. This role involves collaborating with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs. The Assistant Mechanical Engineer will be integral in ensuring that the mechanical design meets the project requirements and adheres to industry standards. In this position, the Assistant Mechanical Engineer will assist in the mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through to design completion. Responsibilities include modifying and reviewing production drawings for various projects, which may encompass power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, and governmental and military facilities. The role also involves designing mechanical components based on project needs and requirements set forth by project managers, applying basic knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures. Additionally, the Assistant Mechanical Engineer will conduct research and compile project-related data as required by project managers. They will also be responsible for correcting and updating drawings provided by senior engineers, ensuring that all corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software. The role includes assisting with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration for various facility designs. Field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients may also be part of the job, along with other duties as assigned, all while complying with company policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for various projects including power plants, process facilities, and healthcare facilities.
  • Design mechanical components based on project needs and requirements set by project managers.
  • Apply basic knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
  • Conduct research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Correct and update drawings provided by senior engineers using CAD software.
  • Assist with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required.
  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in standard mechanical engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Basic computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.
