About the position
The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach & Operations position at New Jersey Institute of Technology is a part-time role focused on supporting the Head Men's Basketball Coach in training, competition preparation, and in-game coaching. The incumbent will also manage day-to-day operations of the basketball program, including scheduling, travel logistics, and equipment oversight, while ensuring compliance with NCAA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assist in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition preparation.
- Monitor student-athletes' academic progress and assist with player development.
- Coordinate training and practice sessions, ensuring safety guidelines are maintained.
- Assist with video editing software and practice/game film breakdown.
- Serve as primary logistics and travel coordinator for the program, including transportation arrangements, lodgings, and meals.
- Manage team inventory of equipment and apparel.
- Secure practice facilities for home and away practice times.
- Collaborate with visiting basketball teams on scheduling practice times and assist with game day needs.
- Hire, supervise, and monitor the performance of student managers.
- Initiate and coordinate team community service initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- A minimum of two years' coaching experience at the high school/competitive club/college level, or collegiate playing/managerial experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in the area of sporting specialty.
- Knowledge of applicable team or individual sport and its playing rules.
- Ability to foster a cooperative environment and organize effectively.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and safety procedures.
- Computer proficiency and valid driver's license.
