About the position
The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Lexington City Schools is responsible for teaching and developing the physical skills necessary for students to excel in basketball. The role emphasizes leadership, adherence to rules and regulations, and fostering a positive educational experience through sportsmanship and academic excellence.
Responsibilities
- Teach the physical skills needed to play basketball.
- Know and follow all rules and regulations governing the sport.
- Provide fair and equal opportunities for all candidates.
- Plan and supervise practice sessions appropriate for the age and maturity of the players.
- Meet with the athletic director to prepare a tentative schedule of games.
- Establish rules for the proper use and care of athletic equipment.
- Prepare and present a list of students desiring to participate to the athletic director for eligibility checks.
- Check and monitor team members' academic progress.
- Perform other duties related to coaching as assigned by the head coach and athletic director.
- Follow all fiscal control act procedures for collected monies.
- Adhere to the athletic and coach handbook as well as state and conference regulations.
Requirements
- Leadership skills that encourage academic excellence and positive community relationships.
- Ability to communicate with a diverse population of students, staff, and community.
- Possession or ability to obtain a North Carolina Teaching License through the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
- Possession or ability to obtain a North Carolina CDL license.
- CPR & AED certifications.
- Completion of the NFHS Required Course work within 30 days of hire.
