About the position

The Assistant Network Engineer will assist in the design, troubleshooting, and management of the University Network, focusing on both IPv4 and IPv6 technologies. This role involves providing problem determination for applications running over the local network and the Internet, as well as supporting various network infrastructures including Voice over IP, E-911, wireless systems, firewalls, VPNs, routers, switches, and Ethernet technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design of the University Network (IPv4 and IPv6).
  • Troubleshoot and manage network functions.
  • Provide problem determination for applications running over the local network and Internet.
  • Support configuration and troubleshooting for Voice over IP infrastructure.
  • Manage E-911, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, routers, switches, DWDM, and Ethernet technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least two years of experience in design, troubleshooting, or management of medium- or large-sized enterprise TCP/IP networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex network problems.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a cross-functional team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree preferred in a related discipline.
  • Experience with network performance monitoring and debugging tools.
  • Knowledge of 802.1x, Radius, and/or SAML/SSO authentication.
  • Experience with wireless technologies and network intrusion detection.
  • Familiarity with IPv6, IP video, VoIP, EIGRP, BGP, and network/server virtualization.
