About the position

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) in the Mental Health Nursing Department at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for supporting the Nurse Manager in overseeing the 24/7 operations of the unit. This role involves supervising nursing staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, and coordinating patient education and self-management initiatives. The ANM acts as a clinical expert and role model, engaging in professional development and process improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Nurse Manager in supervisory duties and accountability for unit operations.
  • Provide coverage for other Assistant Nurse Managers as needed.
  • Direct and supervise orientation, training, and development of nursing staff.
  • Evaluate individual staff performance and provide feedback.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care delivery.
  • Coordinate care focused on patient education and self-management.
  • Engage in professional organizations for leadership and career growth.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S.
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.
