About the position

The Assistant Nurse Manager at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania plays a crucial role in supporting the Nurse Manager in overseeing nursing management principles, policies, and procedures. This position is responsible for ensuring continuity of care, enhancing employee satisfaction, and maintaining patient safety and quality of care. The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with clinical leadership to develop programs and initiatives that meet customer needs and drive operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Nurse Manager in improving employee satisfaction through regular communication and relationship building.
  • Analyze employee satisfaction data and collaborate with staff to develop and implement action plans for improvement.
  • Work with clinical leadership to develop programs and services that anticipate customer needs and drive operational integration.
  • Manage and eliminate process workarounds, ensuring effective communication with organizational partners.
  • Support the Nurse Manager in establishing and updating processes and work practices for the unit/department.
  • Drive patient/client loyalty by ensuring staff understand service expectations and have the necessary skills to meet them.
  • Manage patient/client complaints and ensure timely follow-up for satisfaction.
  • Communicate and reinforce environment of care procedures and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in the selection, career development, and performance review of staff and peers.
  • Support community outreach projects and represent the hospital in community organizations.

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (Required)
  • Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania (Required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (Required)
  • 3+ years of progressive nursing experience with demonstrated leadership skills (Required)
  • Master's degree in Nursing (Preferred)

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a leadership role within a medical ICU setting
  • Familiarity with Magnet standards and regulatory compliance
