About the position

The Assistant Piping Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams in creating world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments across a variety of sectors including power, process, corporate, healthcare, pipeline, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. This role involves collaborating with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting piping plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs. The Assistant Piping Engineer will assist in the piping design of projects from the conceptual phase through to design completion, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary requirements and standards. In this position, the Assistant Piping Engineer will be responsible for modifying and reviewing production drawings for various projects, including power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, and governmental and military facilities. The role requires designing piping components that align with project needs and requirements set forth by project managers. The Assistant Piping Engineer will apply basic knowledge of commonly used piping engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the chemical piping engineering services industry. Additionally, the role involves conducting research and compiling project-related data as required by project managers, as well as correcting and updating drawings provided by senior engineers to ensure accuracy across multiple CAD-related software. The Assistant Piping Engineer will also assist with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration for the design of various facilities. Field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients may also be part of the responsibilities. The position requires compliance with all company policies and standards, and the Assistant Piping Engineer will perform other duties as assigned to support the project team effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams in creating designs for new projects and alterations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required if holding a degree in Engineering Technology.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in standard piping engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic computer skills in AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
