Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and conducts research studies related to community planning.
  • Maintains, updates, and analyzes demographic and other data required for planning.
  • Prepares reports and analysis regarding land use, zoning, urban design, and environmental issues.
  • Coordinates work of consultants preparing reports and provides program area recommendations.
  • Recommends land use for residential, commercial, and industrial purposes.
  • Reviews and processes plans and applications for development projects.
  • Conducts project site checks and field inspections.
  • Coordinates the development review process with other City departments and outside agencies.
  • Conducts environmental analysis for environmental documents in compliance with state law.
  • Provides front counter and phone support to developers and the public regarding planning regulations.
  • Manages contracts for Community Development Block Grant programs and housing programs.
  • Represents the City at meetings and reviews plans from other agencies.
  • Prepares and presents staff reports for the City Council and Planning Commission.
  • Researches and contributes to the revision of local ordinances and land use regulations.

Requirements

  • One year of responsible professional or paraprofessional urban or regional planning and zoning experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong customer service and diplomatic skills for public interactions.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and receive feedback.
  • Proactive attitude and strong work ethic.
