About the position

The Merchandise Planning Assistant at Lucky 21 plays a crucial role in the Planning Team, contributing to the development and management of sales plans, in-season plans, and sales trend analysis. This full-time position is based in Roselle, New Jersey, and reports directly to the Director of Planning. The Assistant Planner will engage in various activities that include analyzing sales and margin performance through standardized reports prepared on a weekly and monthly basis. The role requires assisting in the development of sales, margin, and inventory plans across multiple storefronts and brands, as well as reforecasting sales, receipts, and inventory based on historical performance data. In addition to these responsibilities, the Assistant Planner will monitor open orders against the sales plan and receipts, ensuring alignment with the overall business objectives. The position also involves close collaboration with buyers to understand their planning needs and objectives, participating in weekly team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities, and creating ad hoc business recaps for management and vendor partners as needed. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and grow within the field of merchandise planning, utilizing data analysis to drive business decisions and improve sales performance. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, organizational abilities, and a solid understanding of retail math. They should be comfortable working with advanced Excel functions, including macros, pivot tables, and v-lookups, and have excellent communication skills to effectively convey insights and collaborate with team members. Responsibilities

  • Analyze sales and margin performance using standardized reports prepared weekly/monthly.
  • Assist with developing sales, margin, and inventory plans across several storefronts/brands.
  • Assist with reforecasting sales, receipts, and inventory.
  • Analyze historical performance and develop skills to propose flow strategies for large volume listings.
  • Monitor open orders versus sales plan and receipts.
  • Work closely with buyers to understand their planning needs and objectives.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Create ad hoc business recaps as needed for L21 management/vendor partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or 1 year of experience in a Planning or Buying role.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to multitask and flex among competing priorities.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (advanced Excel preferred).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and draw valid conclusions that show understanding and insight.
  • Advanced understanding of retail math, or strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
