About the position

The City of Bend is seeking a full-time Assistant Planner to join the Community Development Department. This role involves performing routine planning activities, assisting the public at the Permit Center, and processing planning applications and building permits. The Assistant Planner will engage with citizens, project applicants, and internal staff, providing information on zoning, land use, and planning regulations. The position requires effective communication skills and a basic understanding of urban planning principles.

Responsibilities

  • Staffs the Permit Center counter, providing information and assistance to citizens, project applicants, developers, architects, engineers, and internal staff regarding zoning, land use, and planning issues.
  • Schedules, prepares, and distributes planning materials and routine reports for meetings.
  • Receives, logs, and tracks plan submittals; reviews building permits and zoning letters for planning and zoning issues.
  • Organizes and maintains departmental case files and related materials.
  • Complies with safety requirements and promotes safe work practices.
  • Responds to emergencies to ensure restoration of essential public services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Geography, or a closely related field.
  • At least six months of customer service experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, rules, laws, and regulations related to urban planning.
  • Basic understanding of urban planning principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience or internship in a Planning function preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $71,022.67 - $90,645.31 annually.
  • Full-time position with overtime eligibility.
