About the position

The Village of Carol Stream, Illinois, is seeking a motivated and customer-oriented individual for the role of Assistant Planner within the Community Development Department. This full-time position focuses on professional municipal planning and zoning review, primarily related to the administration of the Village's Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The Assistant Planner will be responsible for reviewing zoning and building permit applications, conducting site plan reviews, and ensuring compliance with development approvals.

Responsibilities

• Review zoning and building permit applications.
• Conduct site plan reviews and inspections of properties for compliance.
• Process sign permit and business registration applications.
• Handle zoning enforcement cases and related documentation.
• Complete research and analysis projects within the Geographic Information System (GIS).
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders effectively.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, or a related field.
• Minimum of one year of experience in municipal planning and zoning administration (internship experience accepted).
• Possession of a valid Illinois Driver's License.
• Knowledge of computer applications including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Familiarity with GIS is a plus.
