About the position

The Assistant Planner at the McLean County Regional Planning Commission (MCRPC) plays a crucial role in developing and updating transportation and comprehensive planning processes. This position involves coordinating and preparing comprehensive plans, transportation programs, and other projects under the guidance of the Executive Director and senior staff. The Assistant Planner is expected to implement best practices and collaborate with municipalities and partners to enhance community planning efforts.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Executive Director and MCRPC staff in strategic planning, transportation planning, housing initiatives, and rural planning.
• Collect, develop, maintain, and analyze data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other software.
• Create maps and graphic representations for reports.
• Coordinate outreach efforts to increase community awareness of MCRPC and planning issues.
• Provide technical planning services related to transportation, land use, and GIS to various stakeholders.
• Carry out assignments related to the implementation of adopted plans.
• Attend and participate in meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars to represent MCRPC.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning or a closely related field.
• Minimum of one year of internship or professional experience in a planning agency or firm.
• Experience with GIS and other planning/design software.
• Proficiency in MS Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of contemporary planning concepts and principles.
