About the position

The Assistant Preschool Teacher at the JCC of Binghamton plays a crucial role in managing the daily operations of the toddler classroom. This full-time position is designed for a proactive and compassionate individual dedicated to fostering a positive learning environment. The assistant teacher will support the development and implementation of educational programs that reflect the school's goals and values, contributing creativity and insight as part of the teaching team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning daily activities that promote children's social, physical, emotional, and mental development.
• Supervise children in various indoor and outdoor environments to ensure their health and safety.
• Maintain up-to-date records for a group of children, including attendance and health records.
• Communicate effectively in oral and written English with staff, children, and parents.
• Report behavior incidents to parents and conduct conferences as needed.
• Carry a child up to 45 pounds in emergencies and communicate with children at their eye level.
• Participate in large motor activities such as swimming, walking, and climbing stairs.
• Maintain cleanliness in areas used by children and report unsafe equipment to supervisors.
• Meet New York State DCC Licensing Regulations and NAEYC accreditation standards.
• Attend a minimum of 15 hours of additional training each year.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Minimum of a high school diploma.
• Experience or educational background in working with young children is desired.
• Ability to work well with young children, teachers, administration, and parents.
• Patience, compassion, and a genuine love for working with children.
• Ability to carry a child up to 45 pounds in case of emergency.
• Ability to sit on low chairs and on the floor to communicate with children at eye level.
