About the position

We are currently looking for a full-time Press Assistant to support production at our Lenexa plant. Essential to TC Transcontinental Packaging operations, the Press Assistant is responsible for assisting the Press Operator in preparing and running the press for jobs by adhering to production targets, waste, and quality standards. The role involves a variety of tasks that ensure the smooth operation of the printing process, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the production team. The Press Assistant will work in a dynamic environment, where attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions are crucial for success. The Press Assistant will assist in preparing the press and all job components for each job, which includes loading specified anilox, ink, film, and other materials. During the printing process, the assistant will make necessary changes to inks while checking the viscosity of the ink on an hourly basis. After the printing is completed, the assistant will take the finished film off the machine and load it onto a pallet for pick up. Additionally, the role requires retrieving and returning ink to and from the ink room and cleaning the machine for the next job. The Press Assistant is also responsible for managing and handling hazardous waste, ensuring compliance with safety regulations. This position requires physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks that involve lifting and moving heavy materials. The Press Assistant must be able to tolerate strong solvent smells in parts of the plant and be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment. The role is vital for maintaining the quality and efficiency of the production process, and the successful candidate will play a key role in the team's success.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparing press and all job components for job (loading specified anilox, ink, film, etc.)
  • Makes changes to inks as needed during printing, while checking viscosity of ink on an hourly basis
  • Takes finished film off machine and loads it onto pallet for pick up
  • Retrieves and returns ink to and from ink room and cleans machine for next job
  • Responsible for managing and handling hazardous waste
  • Performs rework as necessary

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or equivalent education and experience
  • Ability to read a measuring tape
  • Ability to read, write, and understand simple and concise instructions or information
  • Production experience
  • Ability to occasionally work overtime
  • Ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly
  • Ability to operate overhead hoist system to move cylinders weighing in excess of 200 pounds
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and twisting
  • Ability to tolerate strong solvent smell in parts of the plant
