About the position

Donovan Catholic High School is seeking an Assistant Principal of Curriculum/Instruction and Student Life to join our dedicated team. This full-time position is based in Toms River, NJ, and is integral to shaping the educational experience of our students. The ideal candidate will embrace our mission of providing a rigorous Catholic education, ensuring that every student is known and valued. The Assistant Principal will work closely with the Principal and other administrators to oversee the school's curricular programs and student life initiatives, fostering an environment that promotes character development and personal growth. In this role, the Assistant Principal will supervise the Academic Council, Department Heads, and guidance counselors, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of student learning. They will also coordinate student affairs, including in-school activities, assemblies, and orientations, to enhance the overall student experience. The Assistant Principal will be responsible for overseeing Advanced Placement (AP) programs, curriculum development, and faculty supervision, while also serving as a mentor to students and staff alike. The Assistant Principal will collaborate with various stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and community organizations, to promote student engagement and service projects. They will manage budgets, plan extracurricular activities, and develop communication strategies to keep families informed about student life events. Additionally, the Assistant Principal will enforce school-wide policies and routines that encourage positive student behavior and leadership, ensuring a supportive and inclusive school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate AP classroom, curriculum, instruction, and testing.
  • Coordinate curriculum development and implementation, supervise faculty, and support professional growth for all faculty.
  • Ensure students complete their Christian service requirements.
  • Assist Campus Minister with retreats and plan Catholic Schools Week activities.
  • Plan and organize student activities, clubs, and events to enhance student engagement and campus culture.
  • Organize club fairs and manage club schedules.
  • Work collaboratively with the Student Council for school dances and events.
  • Moderate the National Honor Society (NHS) and oversee its advisors.
  • Plan and organize pep rallies in collaboration with the Athletic Director.
  • Serve as acting Principal when the Principal is not present in the building.
  • Assist the Dean of Students and senior class advisors as needed.
  • Support new teachers with certification and professional growth days.
  • Oversee student textbooks and assist with class trips.
  • Coordinate with Title Funds for student assemblies and oversee professional development.
  • Create the Master Academic Schedule and work with the guidance department.
  • Manage student IDs and oversee Freshmen Orientation Day.
  • Develop marketing strategies to promote student life activities and events.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for student life activities and maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Work with community organizations to promote engagement and service projects.
  • Encourage student participation in clubs and volunteer opportunities.
  • Cultivate a welcoming school environment in collaboration with athletics and performing arts.
  • Promote student activities through bulletin boards and announcements.
  • Develop and enforce school-wide policies that promote positive behavior and leadership.
  • Monitor merit distribution and assist with awards and graduation ceremonies.
  • Plan and organize the Unsung Student Award and maintain club rosters.

Requirements

  • Valid NJ Principal Certification required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with educational technology for instruction.
