About the position

The Assistant Principal will work under the supervision of the Principal and will be responsible for supporting various aspects of school leadership, curriculum, discipline, staff evaluation, and professional learning. This role includes implementing school goals, supervising staff and programs, and assisting in the development of the school improvement plan and budget. The Assistant Principal will also counsel students, parents, and teachers regarding academic and behavioral issues, supervise extracurricular programs, and prepare necessary reports for the school and district.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in implementing the identified goals of the School and the System.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff, curriculum, programs, and departments as assigned.
  • Assists the principal in developing the school improvement plan.
  • Assists the principal in developing and supervising the school budget and purchasing requirements.
  • Counsel with students, parents, and teachers when an individual student's academic and behavioral problems are involved.
  • Supervise assigned aspects of the extracurricular programs, including athletic and social activities, student government, assemblies, etc.
  • Supervise certain school auxiliary services; which may include safety programs, media services, technology, and textbooks.
  • Assist in supervising the preparation of such school communications as bulletins, handbooks, annuals, and newspapers.
  • Supervise, analyze, and evaluate testing and benchmark programs as required.
  • Prepare School, System, State and Federal reports as required.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the principal.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of Georgia standards, instructional practices, curriculum, and effective teaching methods.
  • Certification at the L5 level or above in Educational Leadership.
  • Evidence of progressive leadership roles such as mentor, team leader, committee chair, department chair, instructional coach.
  • Successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Excellent communication, technology, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to accurately analyze and interpret data and guide teachers in corrective planning.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage several tasks and assignments at once with flexibility and sensitivity to the needs of students, faculty, parents, and the community.
  • Ability to prioritize work as a team; maintain confidentiality; work with frequent interruptions; and contribute to a positive school climate for all stakeholders.
