About the position

The Assistant Principal plays a crucial role in supporting the principal in the leadership and management of the school. This position is responsible for ensuring the effective organization and operations of the school, which includes managing the curriculum and instructional programs, including Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE). The Assistant Principal is tasked with maintaining a safe and orderly environment that fosters student success. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including teachers, parents, support personnel, and students, to create a positive educational atmosphere. The Assistant Principal will also assume the principal's responsibilities during their absence, ensuring continuity in leadership and decision-making. In addition to administrative duties, the Assistant Principal will conduct faculty meetings, assemblies, and volunteer programs, and oversee regulations that affect students, including academic performance and discipline. This position involves counseling students as needed and participating in staff selection, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. The Assistant Principal will attend meetings, workshops, and extracurricular activities to stay informed and engaged with the school community. Furthermore, the role includes preparing reports on attendance, test scores, personnel, and government projects, as well as addressing student and parent requests or problems effectively. The Assistant Principal will also serve on district-wide task forces and committees, contributing to broader educational initiatives and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for carrying out the duties of the principal during his/her absence.
  • Provides leadership and accountability in working with all school stakeholders including teachers, parents, support personnel, and students.
  • Conducts faculty meetings, assemblies, volunteer programs, and other activities.
  • Oversees regulations affecting students, academic performance, and discipline, and counsels students as needed.
  • Participates in staff selection, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions as assigned.
  • Attends meetings, workshops, training, and extracurricular activities.
  • Prepares reports regarding attendance, test scores, personnel, government projects, and other data.
  • Reviews student/parent requests or problems and appropriately addresses them.
  • Serves on district-wide task forces and committees.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned and required to fulfill the above responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience required.
  • Standard Professional Educational Leadership - Tier I certificate or a Standard or Performance-Based Professional Educational Leadership - Tier II certificate required.
  • Completion or exemption of all applicable Special Georgia Requirements at the time of application.
