About the position

The person in this position serves as the Assistant Principal and works with administrators at all levels in developing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the district programs. The Assistant Principal is responsible for coordinating the educational programs of the school, evaluating staff, and providing information to others; and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Serves on the Principal's Building Leadership Council and advises the Principal on issues related to the educational programs, students, and staff.
  • Hires, evaluates and supervises personnel according to district policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates the development, communication, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the building level educational programs and PLC process.
  • Serves as the building level Complaint Manager under the direction of the District Non-Discrimination Coordinator.
  • Implements policies, procedures, and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
  • Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
  • Manages a variety of school administrative functions (discipline policies, registration, master schedule, staff assignments, student and staff attendance) for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school.
  • Coordinates all school events (open house, curriculum nights, awards ceremonies, commencement exercises, etc.).
  • Represents school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to the school.
  • Manages the assessment program of the district under the direction of the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
  • Coordinates building level staff development offerings.
  • Oversees the MTSS in the building making program recommendations when necessary.
  • Stays professionally current in the field of supervision and administration.
  • Keeps current on educational research by reading professional journals.
  • Participates in professional organizations and activities at the local, state and national level.
  • Participates in professional conferences and inservice activities.

Requirements

  • Masters degree
  • Valid, Illinois Professional Educator License with a General Administrative Endorsement
