About the position

The Assistant Principal serves as an instructional and administrative leader within Baldwin County Public Schools, working collaboratively with staff, students, and the community to ensure a high-quality educational program. This role involves supporting the principal in various administrative tasks, overseeing personnel, and enhancing the overall mission of the school.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Assists in providing effective leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the instructional program.
  • Assists in interpreting and enforcing local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws.
  • Assists the principal in personnel functions such as recruitment, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation, and mentoring.
  • Helps secure, maintain, and manage material resources for the school.
  • Assists in improving student attendance and scheduling students for instruction.
  • Supports extracurricular activities and supervises classroom instruction as needed.
  • Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Facilitates and monitors the integration of technology in the classroom.
  • Assists with curriculum development and related matters.
  • Prepares reports, presentations, publications, or rosters as assigned.
  • Inspects the physical plant and grounds, reporting maintenance needs.
  • Attends meetings, trainings, seminars, and workshops as required.
  • Supervises school system activities, events, ceremonies, and conferences as needed.
  • Assists with health and safety procedures for staff and students.
  • Assumes overall responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  • Maintains high visibility within all areas of the facility and monitors transportation services on school grounds.
  • Models and maintains high ethical standards and adheres to state statutes and system policies regarding accounting.
  • Oversees administration of state and/or standardized testing, ensuring test security and appropriate testing environments.
  • Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in educational administration or school leadership.
  • Valid Alabama certificate in Educational Leadership, administration, and/or supervision.
  • Three (3) years successful experience as a classroom teacher.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of modern education.
  • Ability to plan and organize effectively and supervise the work of others.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for communication and collaboration with diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of school law, Board policies, and school system regulations.
  • Demonstrated skill in recruitment, selection, induction, and assignment of personnel.
