As an Assistant Product Developer at Petco, you will play a crucial role in creating a healthier and brighter future for pets, pet parents, and people. This role requires a proactive approach to monitoring industry trends and collaborating with internal teams to identify new product opportunities. You will also be responsible for managing product data and ensuring that development activities progress on schedule and within budget. This is a full-time position based in San Diego, CA, with a salary range of $55,800 to $83,800 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Appraises new product ideas to determine their potential to address customer needs and to achieve goals in revenue growth and market share, making recommendations to management.
  • Establishes product features and benefits, coordinating with various functions (e.g., marketing, merchandising, finance) and vendors to ensure successful product development and implementation.
  • Monitors, researches, and reports on industry trends for applications to new and existing product categories, working with the consumer insights team to identify new pet product opportunities and fashion trends.
  • Provides product development and production information to internal sourcing team members, vendors, and others to ensure product development and production activities progress on schedule and within prescribed budget.
  • Enters and updates product data and information (e.g., requests and timelines for samples and fabric, lab dips) into computer tracking systems, such as product life management (PLM).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in product management, fashion merchandising, or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience in a related field or equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training.
  • Progressive experience in Product Development in a Retail setting is preferred.
