About the position

The Assistant Production Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the Manager in overseeing the production of cannabis-infused products. This position involves a variety of responsibilities that ensure the smooth operation of the production process, which includes products such as dry flower, pre-rolls, infused topicals, tablets, and beverages. The Assistant Production Manager is expected to motivate the production team by providing encouragement, acting as a servant leader, and offering constructive feedback to enhance team performance. This role requires a proactive approach to coaching and developing Leads and Specialists, ensuring that they have the necessary guidance and opportunities for growth. In addition to team management, the Assistant Production Manager is responsible for inspecting production equipment to ensure it is in good operating order. This includes partnering with the maintenance department for repairs and scheduled maintenance. The role also involves assisting the Manager in driving the production and processing department to achieve and surpass goals, maximizing output while minimizing costs to enhance profitability. Inventory management is another critical aspect of this position, where the Assistant Production Manager will support the tracking of finished products and maintain accurate records of batch numbers. Quality control is paramount in this role, as the Assistant Production Manager must ensure that all production processes adhere to quality, safety, GMPs, and ISO standards. This includes monitoring the environmental controls in edibles cure and storage rooms to prevent product loss and ensuring that all barcoded inventory is accurately documented in the track and trace systems. The Assistant Production Manager will also guide and direct the edibles staff to maintain productivity and product quality, while enforcing all health and safety regulations set by the state and municipality. Other duties may be assigned as needed, making this a dynamic and multifaceted position.

Responsibilities

  • Motivate production team by providing encouragement and constructive feedback.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and development opportunities to Leads and Specialists.
  • Inspect and ensure all production equipment is in good operating order.
  • Partner with the maintenance department for repairs or scheduled maintenance of production equipment.
  • Assist the manager in driving the production and processing department to achieve and surpass goals and objectives.
  • Support inventory management of finished products and record batch numbers.
  • Maintain and monitor edibles cure and storage rooms by adjusting environmental controls.
  • Ensure quality, safety, GMPs, and ISO standards are followed.
  • Document all barcoded inventory accurately in track and trace systems.
  • Support production forecasting by keeping the manager informed of finished goods count.
  • Guide and direct edibles staff to ensure productivity and product quality are maintained.
  • Ensure all QC/QA protocols are followed and maintained.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations for production, health and safety, and additional requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of experience in a high-volume food production facility or commercial cannabis kitchen.
  • 1+ year of management/supervisory experience in a regulated field adhering to health and safety policies.
  • High attention to detail and goal-driven mindset.
  • Ability to positively motivate and support teammates.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and able to register with the state's cannabis commission as an agent.
  • Ability to stand for 90% of the time and comfortable with changing environmental temperatures and humidity.
  • Comfortable working atop and traversing scaffolding, when required.
  • Ability to ascend/descend a ladder to service equipment up to 25ft.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 years of management/supervisory experience in the cannabis industry preferred.
  • Operations or performance improvement skill sets preferred.
  • Previous experience in food production and manufacturing.
