About the position

The University of Louisville School of Nursing is seeking two Board-Certified Family or Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners for full-time positions. The role involves a split between the University of Louisville Campus Health Service and the School of Nursing, focusing on both clinical practice and nursing education. Candidates will be expected to engage in clinical teaching assignments and provide primary care services to students, emphasizing health promotion and treatment of various conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full scope of primary care services to students at the University of Louisville.
  • Gather health histories, perform physical examinations and diagnostic procedures.
  • Provide health promotion, prevention, and treatments to patients.
  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, infections, anxiety, depression, and minor injuries.
  • Prescribe medications as needed for the plan of care.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests.
  • Document all patient interactions in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Effectively communicate with diverse populations.
  • Work within an interprofessional team and refer patients to consulting health care providers when appropriate.
  • Engage in clinical and/or didactic teaching responsibilities, including developing, implementing, and evaluating learning activities.
  • Participate in curriculum development and implementation.

Requirements

  • Masters or Doctoral Degree in Nursing
  • Board Certification as a primary care nurse practitioner
  • License (or ability to attain) a Kentucky APRN license
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential information
  • 2 years' experience working as an APRN
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience in acute and chronic adult health and/or public/community health nursing
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered RN license to practice nursing in Kentucky.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctoral Degree as a Nurse Practitioner
  • 4 years' experience as an APRN in primary care
  • Experience as an APRN in a specialty area such as orthopedics, care of the LGBT patient, or women's health
  • Experience in course development, delivery, and evaluation
  • Robust knowledge of salient research, effective pedagogical practices, adult learning theories, instructional design, higher education workforce trends, assessment techniques, scholarly research practices, teaching practices, and teaching technologies
  • Demonstrated expertise in providing face-to-face, hybrid, and online teaching and learning.
