About the position
The University of Louisville School of Nursing is seeking two Board-Certified Family or Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners for full-time positions. The role involves a split between clinical practice at the University of Louisville Campus Health Service and academic responsibilities within the School of Nursing. Candidates should have experience in nursing education and adult learning principles, with a focus on clinical teaching in adult health and public/community health nursing. Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills are essential for success in this position.
Responsibilities
- Provide full scope of primary care services to students, focusing on young adults but also treating adults of all ages.
- Gather health histories, perform physical examinations, and conduct diagnostic procedures.
- Provide health promotion, prevention, and treatment to patients.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, infections, anxiety, and depression.
- Prescribe medications as needed for the plan of care.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests.
- Document all patient interactions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively with diverse populations and work within an interprofessional team.
- Participate in clinical instruction and curriculum development for nursing education.
Requirements
- Masters or Doctoral Degree in Nursing
- Board Certification as a primary care nurse practitioner
- License (or ability to attain) a Kentucky APRN license
- Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain highly confidential information
- 2 years' experience working as an APRN
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience in acute and chronic adult health and/or public/community health nursing
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment
- Eligible to obtain an unencumbered RN license to practice nursing in Kentucky.
Nice-to-haves
- Doctoral Degree as a Nurse Practitioner
- 4 years' experience as an APRN in primary care
- Experience as an APRN in a specialty area such as orthopedics, care of the LGBT patient, or women's health
- Experience in course development, delivery, and evaluation
- Robust knowledge of salient research, effective pedagogical practices, adult learning theories, instructional design, higher education workforce trends, assessment techniques, scholarly research practices, teaching practices, and teaching technologies
- Demonstrated expertise in providing face-to-face, hybrid, and online teaching and learning.
