About the position
The College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University is seeking to fill two open-rank faculty positions in AI governance, focusing on public policy dimensions and the ethical, legal, and societal implications of AI technologies. The successful candidates will be dynamic scholars committed to teaching and research excellence, with a strong emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion. They will contribute to the advancement of Responsible AI/Democracy across various scales and will be expected to develop innovative curricula that prepare the next generation of professionals in this field.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in AI governance and related fields.
- Advance Responsible AI/Democracy at global, national, municipal, and grassroots levels.
- Develop new curricula for training professionals on the societal impacts of AI.
- Conduct research on AI governance, particularly in the Global South.
- Collaborate across disciplines to enhance the college's interdisciplinary mission.
- Mentor students and contribute to their success in diverse and inclusive environments.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in public policy, political science, international affairs, or a related field by the employment start date.
- For Associate Professor level, at least 4 years of relevant experience required.
- For Full Professor level, at least 6 years of relevant experience required.
- Demonstrated record in teaching, research, scholarship, and service appropriate for the rank.
- Commitment to engaged and impactful research and innovation.
- Evidence of interdisciplinary expertise and collaboration.
Nice-to-haves

- Commitment to faculty development and mentoring, especially for senior candidates.
