About the position

The Assistant Professor position in Organismal Zoology at Black Hills State University is a full-time, tenure-track role beginning in August 2025. The successful candidate will contribute to a diverse Natural Science department, teaching introductory and upper-level courses in biology, and developing a research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students. Responsibilities

  • Teach introductory and upper-level courses in Biology, including mammalogy, herpetology, entomology, ichthyology, and conservation biology.
  • Develop and grow new emphases within the Biology major.
  • Supervise graduate students in the Integrative Genomics MSc. program.
  • Instruct courses in the Sustainability MSc. program.
  • Develop a research program that includes undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provide academic advising to students.
  • Engage in service related to student professional opportunities.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biology, Wildlife Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field.
  • ABD candidates near graduation will be considered, with degree completion required within one year of the start date.

  • Experience with field methods, eDNA/ecological genetics, or environmental policy.
