About the position

The University of South Florida College of Nursing is seeking a tenure-track/tenured faculty member for the position of Assistant Professor in Biostatistics. The successful candidate will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to secure grant funding and contribute to research in health sciences, particularly focusing on precision science and health determinants. This role involves teaching statistics to doctoral students and guiding research projects, making it integral to the college's mission of advancing nursing science and improving health outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Actively collaborate with College of Nursing research teams on proposals related to study design, protocol development, statistical analysis, data interpretation, and manuscript and grant proposal preparation.
  • Serve as biostatistician or co-investigator on extra-mural grant proposals.
  • Critically evaluate optimum analytical methodology for individual projects, centers, and program projects.
  • Guide data analyst staff with respect to statistical methodology and programming.
  • Actively participate in research development efforts of faculty.
  • Teach statistics courses to doctoral students and assist them with data analysis of their projects.
  • Serve on committees at university and college where appropriate and commensurate with rank.
  • Participate in community and professional service activities following the university and college's criteria.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in statistics, biostatistics, or related quantitative field with direct application to Health Sciences from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistical methods for experiment design, sample size, and power analysis, clinical trial designs, longitudinal data analysis, survival data analysis, and high-dimensional data analysis.
  • Strong computational and programming skills with SAS, R, and/or other programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, a commitment to team science, and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of creative work, professional writing, or research in referred and other professional journals and participation in funded research study teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • History of collaborative funding from extramural agencies, preferably federal funding.
  • Evidence of consistent publications and scholarly publications.
  • Experience working with Data Cores, e.g., within the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS), cancer centers, or other similar research centers.
  • Experience teaching and mentoring PhD students.
