About the position

The University of Colorado Boulder is seeking an Assistant Professor in Climate-Related Extreme Events to join the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research (INSTAAR). This faculty position focuses on researching climate-related hazards and their environmental impacts, particularly at the surface-atmosphere and terrestrial-aquatic interfaces. The role emphasizes interdisciplinary research and aims to enhance the understanding of hazards such as floods, droughts, wildfires, and landslides, with a strong societal impact. The position is expected to start in August 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a program of research supported by awards from extramural agencies.
  • Contribute to the teaching mission of the undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring for undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Perform service for the institute, department, university, and profession.
  • Contribute to an inclusive and collaborative academic environment.

Requirements

  • Completed Ph.D.
  • Expertise in Earth science or a related field (e.g., Atmospheric Science, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies, Geography, Geological Sciences).
  • Previous research published in top tier, peer-reviewed journals.
