About the position

The Assistant Professor of Counselor Education at Georgia Southern University is a tenure-track position focused on teaching, service, and scholarship within the Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development. The role involves collaborating with faculty, supervising clinical experiences, and maintaining an active research agenda. The position is designed for individuals with a terminal degree in Counselor Education and requires a commitment to student success and engagement in best practices in instruction and pedagogy.

Responsibilities

• Teach graduate courses in counselor education, including assessment, theories, skills, and field-based courses.
• Supervise clinical experiences for students in the Counselor Education program.
• Engage in service to the department, college, university, and professional community.
• Maintain an active research agenda with regular publications and professional presentations.
• Provide graduate advisement to students.
• Collaborate with faculty across the College of Education.

Requirements

• Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program by August 1, 2025.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working as a professional counselor in school settings post-master's program graduation.
• Experience working with diverse student populations.
• Ability and willingness to teach counselor education graduate courses.
• Ability to provide graduate advisement and use technology effectively.
• Effective communication skills with colleagues and candidates.

Nice-to-haves

• Scholarship and/or research focused on school climate, school culture, and/or comprehensive school counseling.
• Experience teaching face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses.
• National certification as a National board-certified counselor (NCC).
• Eligibility as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia.
• Experience with supervision of counselor education student practicum placements.
