About the position

The position is for an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media, Journalism and Film at Howard University, focusing on teaching digital journalism and storytelling across various platforms. Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in digital storytelling and visual journalism.

  • Advise an on-campus media organization.
  • Supervise and critique student portfolios/websites.

  • Participate in committee work and contribute to departmental initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's or terminal degree in a relevant field.
  • Strong record of professional digital journalism achievement, including awards and recognition.
  • Prior university-level teaching experience preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of editorial and operational aspects of digital journalism production.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and other authoring tools.
  • Familiarity with WordPress and other content management systems.
  • Experience with Google Analytics and audience measuring tools.
  • Proficiency in editing software such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, ProTools, and Avid Media Composer.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience teaching digital journalism and/or emerging media reporting.
  • Track record of academic scholarship on emerging media platforms or social media journalism.
  • Interest in immersive technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality.
  • Ability to identify new opportunities in social media and interactive news presentation.
