About the position

The Assistant Professor - Digital Resources and Experience Librarian at Georgia College & State University is responsible for managing the library's electronic and continuing resources while enhancing user-centered designs across digital platforms. This tenure-track faculty position focuses on ensuring seamless access to digital collections, optimizing the online user experience, and supporting scholarly communication initiatives. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including vendor communications, budget management, and participation in research consultations and instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the full lifecycle of e-resources, including acquisitions, access, and assessment.
  • Serve as primary liaison for e-resource vendors and negotiate licenses.
  • Support liaison librarians and faculty with integrating e-resources into course management systems and library platforms.
  • Lead initiatives to improve online accessibility and usability of library resources.
  • Develop and implement user-centered design principles for digital services.
  • Explore and adopt emerging technologies for enhanced digital discovery and access.
  • Manage the library's online databases lists locally and via GALILEO.
  • Collaborate with Associate Director in leading electronic collection development strategies.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of digital collections, including usage data and impact metrics.
  • Advise Associate Director on e-resource budget allocation and forecasting.
  • Promote open access initiatives and open educational resources (OER).
  • Manage the institutional repository in coordination with liaisons who manage departmental submissions.
  • Provide guidance on copyright and fair use in the digital environment.
  • Develop and deliver information literacy instruction and credit courses using a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Create online tutorials and guides for using digital library resources.
  • Provide specialized research consultations related to digital resources.
  • Coordinate with one or more academic departments in assigned liaison areas.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program.
  • Demonstrated understanding of electronic resource management systems and practices.
  • 6 months experience in any related area such as user experience, collection development, or library assessment.
  • Strong knowledge of scholarly publishing trends and licensing in academic libraries.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of experience in an academic library.
  • One year of experience with electronic resource management systems such as Alma or FOLIO.
  • Experience teaching a credit-bearing course, preferably using LMS.
  • Familiarity with usability testing and user experience design principles.
  • Knowledge of current trends in digital libraries and scholarly communication.
