The Assistant Professor, Director of Athletic Bands at San José State University is a tenured/tenure-track faculty position within the School of Music. Responsibilities

• Serve as Director of the San José State University 'Spartan Marching Band' and direct all Spartan Pep Band activities.
• Conduct the Symphonic Band and provide instruction in marching band techniques and other music education courses.
• Participate in shared governance through involvement in school, college, and university committees.
• Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
• Demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive teaching strategies.

Requirements

• An earned doctorate in music or a Master of Music with a distinguished record of professional performance, conducting, teaching, and creative and scholarly activities.
• Successful experience in leading marching and pep bands.
• Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience teaching at the middle/high school level.
• Experience working with collegiate athletic bands.
