About the position

The Department of Educational Policy & Leadership (EPL) at the University at Albany, State University of New York, invites applications for an Assistant Professor whose research emphasizes economics of educational policy and leadership including fiscal policies and practices in K-12 and/or higher education, the economics of domestic and/or global education policy, and/or human capital development by and for education systems. EPL particularly invites diverse candidates with a strong teaching and research record in content applicable to administration and leadership in K-12 and/or higher education, issues in domestic and/or global education policy, and/or policies and practices in cradle-to-career educational systems. The successful applicant will engage with colleagues whose interests and work span pre-K to post-graduate education, domestic and international, to prepare students to be innovative scholar-leaders in local, national, and global education systems. We are looking for applicants who bring unique perspectives to the study of educational organizations and leadership, including those who draw from experience and interests in diverse groups and/or diverse educational settings.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting nationally and internationally recognized research and scholarship related to their area(s) of expertise
  • Seeking external funding support
  • Teaching graduate courses including departmental core courses and courses in economics of education, higher education finance, and/or K-12 school finance
  • Advising graduate students (including serving on dissertation committees)
  • Contributing to recruitment activities
  • Developing strong connections with educational organizations and policy institutes
  • Serving on department, school, and university committees

Requirements

  • An earned doctoral degree in education, economics, public administration or a related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by 8/1/2025
  • Demonstrated ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within a diverse campus community
  • Demonstrated ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging, relative to their role
  • Active, or strong potential for a robust program of research, as evidenced by scholarly and professional publications and/or external funding, commensurate with experience
  • Experience or evidence of commitment to excellence in teaching and advising including in residential, hybrid, and online environments
  • Expertise in economics of educational policy and leadership, fiscal policies and practices in K-12 and/or higher education, economics of domestic and/or global education policy, or human capital development by and for education systems, or similar areas

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong background in quantitative social scientific research methodologies
  • Interest in K-12 educational systems and/or higher education
  • Evidence of or interest in interdisciplinary research and/or academic service as evidenced in collaboration across academic disciplines and academic units
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to global engagement
