About the position

The Department of Electrical Engineering at San José State University (SJSU) is excited to announce a search for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the areas of ASIC, SOC, AI/ML Hardware & Embedded Systems design, set to begin in August 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical engineering, with a strong emphasis on the aforementioned areas of expertise. The department is committed to providing a high-quality education, and the new faculty member will play a crucial role in achieving this goal by delivering engaging instruction and fostering a dynamic learning environment. Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, SJSU's Electrical Engineering Department offers students hands-on experience in state-of-the-art laboratories and opportunities for internships with leading industry partners. The department currently serves over 550 undergraduate and 250 graduate students, all of whom benefit from a curriculum designed to prepare them for successful careers in various fields, including device physics, micro and nano electronics, integrated circuits, communications, signal processing, and machine learning. The department values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, recognizing that these principles are essential for excellence in research, teaching, and service. Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate electrical engineering courses.
  • Supervise and advise students in both undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Develop modern curriculum in Embedded Systems, System on Chip, and ASIC with applications in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Robotics.
  • Establish a research program related to the field of interest.
  • Seek external partnerships, funding, and collaboration with Silicon Valley and beyond.
  • Participate in shared governance through department, college, and university committees.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials and teaching strategies.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science by the start of the appointment.
  • Research background in Embedded Systems, ASIC, and SOC design.
  • Strong commitment to teaching excellence at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Engagement in curriculum development.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population.

Nice-to-haves

  • Academic and industry experience in Embedded Systems, SOC, and ASIC design in artificial intelligence and robotic applications.
  • Potential for high-quality research demonstrated by publications and/or external grants received.
