About the position
The Oregon Institute of Technology is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Environmental Chemistry to join the Natural Sciences Department. This position, starting in September 2025, focuses on teaching introductory and general chemistry courses, as well as specialized environmental chemistry courses. The successful candidate will also engage in applied undergraduate research and contribute to the Master of Science program, fostering collaboration within the multidisciplinary Gerda Hyde Watershed Lab.
Responsibilities
- Teach introductory and general chemistry courses.
- Develop and teach environmental chemistry courses.
- Offer elective courses related to the applicant's area of expertise.
- Engage in applied undergraduate research and scholarly activity.
- Support the Master of Science program in the department.
- Participate in university committees and academic advising of students.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives.
Requirements
- Earned doctoral degree in chemistry or a closely related field (ABD will be considered).
- Strong commitment to supporting student success and high-quality instruction.
- Superior communication skills.
- Record of teaching effectiveness and innovative best practices in undergraduate courses.

- Demonstrated excellence in instruction.
- Experience with water or soil quality monitoring.
- Experience and interest in mentoring undergraduate research projects.
- Background that complements existing strengths in the B.S. Environmental Sciences and B.S. Biology-Health Sciences programs.
