About the position

The Assistant Professor position in Forensic Sciences at Youngstown State University is a tenure-track role focused on teaching, research, and community engagement. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering coursework in forensic science and crime scene investigation at both undergraduate and graduate levels, while also contributing to the development of the Forensic Science program and securing necessary accreditations. This role emphasizes effective communication with students and collaboration with faculty and the professional forensic community.

Responsibilities

  • Teach coursework related to forensic science and crime scene investigation at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Assist faculty in organizing and operating a forensic science teaching laboratory.
  • Conduct original research leading to publication in professional journals.
  • Participate in public, community, and university service.
  • Promote the development of the Forensic Science program at YSU.
  • Act as a liaison with the professional forensic science community.
  • Communicate effectively with students and respond to their needs.
  • Participate in department and college recruiting activities.
  • Assist in securing Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation (FEPAC) from the AAFS.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in forensic science or earned doctoral degree in forensic science or a related natural science.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience teaching at the university level.
  • Membership in forensic science professional societies.
