About the position

The Assistant Professor of Geological Engineering at Montana Tech is responsible for engaging undergraduate and graduate students through hands-on learning and research. The role involves teaching a mix of undergraduate and graduate classes, establishing an independent research program, and contributing to campus and departmental service. The position aims to enhance the geological engineering program and foster a transformative educational experience for students.

Responsibilities

  • Engage undergraduate and graduate students in hands-on learning and teaching.
  • Contribute to the geological engineering program by teaching undergraduate and graduate classes.
  • Independently establish a research program.
  • Contribute to campus and department service.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Geological Engineering, Geology, or related field from an accredited institution by the time of appointment.
  • Expertise in geological and/or geological engineering topics relevant to the undergraduate program.
  • Ability and desire to develop and teach undergraduate courses in geological engineering.
  • Demonstrated record of research excellence, commensurate with career stage.

Nice-to-haves

  • Past experience with and commitment to excellent teaching at the university level.
  • Evidence of ongoing scholarly activity such as patents, peer-reviewed publications, or successful proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and external partners.
  • Industry and/or government experience relevant to the applicant's career path.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Experience with mentorship or potential to develop mentorship skills.
  • Professional registration or licensure, or interest in pursuing it.
