About the position

The University of Texas at Dallas is seeking an Assistant Professor in AR/VR/XR/Virtual Production for a tenure-track position starting in fall 2024. This role is part of the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology, which focuses on multidisciplinary academic research in animation, games, emerging media, and the arts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, and immersive media, and will be expected to contribute to teaching, mentoring, and public-facing programming while developing nationally recognized creative works or research programs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach four courses annually at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Mentor undergraduate capstone students.
  • Contribute to public-facing programming.
  • Develop creative works or research programs that are nationally recognized for innovation and excellence.
  • Engage in collaborative research and foster a diverse campus community through teaching and mentoring.

Requirements

  • MFA, PhD, or equivalent in game design, computer science, or a related discipline required prior to employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and discipline.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality teaching using evidence-based practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Records of excellence in creative practice in virtual reality, augmented reality, mixed reality, and immersive media.
  • Secondary specialization in interactive art installations, art games, indie games, interactive narrative, digital storytelling, animation/vfx, tools development, digital sculpting, architecture, gamification, artificial intelligence, machine learning, sustainability.
