About the position

The Assistant Professor position in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Utah Tech University is a tenure-track role aimed at candidates with a strong background in computer science or related fields. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and developing courses in AI and ML, engaging students in active learning, and contributing to the university's Center for Applied ML/AI. This position offers an opportunity to shape the curriculum and mentor students while being part of a growing academic community.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year of graduate and undergraduate courses in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computer Science.
  • Deliver instruction using various modalities including lecture, laboratory, and project-based learning.
  • Engage and mentor students in active and experiential learning.
  • Provide leadership in the development and oversight of the Center for Applied ML/AI.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of programs and projects in AI, ML, and Computer Science.
  • Conduct public and private outreach activities for the Center for Applied ML/AI.
  • Attend department, college, and university faculty meetings and adhere to university policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • PhD or Doctorate degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and/or Computer Science required.
  • Preference for candidates with relevant prior teaching experience and/or industry experience.
  • Project management experience for industry or student projects preferred.
  • Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and curriculum improvement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to collegiality and teamwork.
  • Commitment to active learning, experiential learning, and student engagement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in current Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning practices.
  • Teaching assistant experience in relevant subjects.
