About the position

The College of Science, Engineering & Technology at Utah Tech University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The position is set to begin on either January 1 or July 1, 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and developing courses in these fields, engaging students in active learning, and contributing to the development of the Center for Applied ML/AI.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credits per academic year of graduate and undergraduate courses in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computer Science.
  • Deliver instruction using various modalities including lecture, laboratory, and project-based learning.
  • Engage and mentor students in active and experiential learning.
  • Provide leadership in the development and oversight of the Center for Applied ML/AI.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of programs and projects in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Computer Science.
  • Conduct public and private outreach activities for the Center for Applied ML/AI.
  • Attend department, college, and university faculty meetings and adhere to university policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • PhD or Doctorate degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and/or Computer Science required.
  • Preference for candidates with relevant prior teaching experience and/or relevant industry experience.
  • Project management experience for industry or student projects preferred.
  • Strong commitment to and evidence of potential for excellence in teaching.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to collegiality and teamwork.
  • Commitment to active learning, experiential learning, and student engagement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching assistant experience in relevant fields.
  • Experience in current Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning practices.
