About the position

The Department of Design at The Ohio State University is seeking a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Computational Visual Design, starting August 15, 2025. The role focuses on the intersection of technology and design, emphasizing innovative approaches to computational design, interaction design, and storytelling with generative systems. The successful candidate will engage in impactful research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and contribute to community-engaged research and creative activities, aligning with the department's commitment to sustainable and socially impactful design.

Responsibilities

  • Develop impactful, productive, and novel research programs in computational visual design.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in design.
  • Engage in service to the department and university.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary centers and institutes within the university and surrounding communities.
  • Support departmental operations as an active citizen.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree (MFA or equivalent) in Computational Design, Interaction Design, Visual Communication Design, or a related field by August 15, 2025.
  • Experience as a design educator is desirable.
  • Research work on generative design, organic algorithms, and predictive modeling is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to building a diverse intellectual community.

Nice-to-haves

  • A PhD in Computational Design, Interaction Design, Visual Communication Design, or a related field is preferred by August 15, 2025.
