About the position

The School of Arts and Humanities at Lees-McRae College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Communication Arts and Design. We are seeking a dynamic art educator to teach a full range of courses in Graphic Design and Digital Media. The Communication Arts and Design program at Lees-McRae offers students the opportunity to specialize in one of three areas, Studio Art, Communication Arts, and Creative Marketing. The successful candidate will help envision the growth and development of the Communication Arts and Creative Marketing specialization tracks. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud is required. Candidates with additional Digital Media experience and capable of teaching courses in subject areas such as photography, video, or animation are preferred. All faculty also teach courses that contribute to the general education program.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 12-credit hours per semester.
  • Manage classroom, assess students, and evaluate student learning.
  • Maintain professional standards of practice in teaching.
  • Meet LMC standards for course syllabi creation and submission.
  • Support student success through mentoring, tutoring, and advising.
  • Maintain regular office hours to meet with students.
  • Continue professional development and maintain currency in the field.
  • Promote and support undergraduate research opportunities.
  • Serve on committees of the School, College, and Faculty Senate.
  • Participate in service to the community and field.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled faculty/administrative meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities.

Requirements

  • Completed a Master of Fine Arts or other relevant terminal degree from an accredited institution.
  • Appropriate teaching experience in Graphic Design at the college level.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to consistently multi-task.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Products such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, XD, After Effects.
  • Knowledge of design history, theory, and contemporary trends in the discipline.

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching experience in digital media such as photography, video, and animation/motion graphics.
