About the position

The University of Utah's Department of Political Science is seeking an Assistant Professor - Lecturer with a focus on law and courts. This teaching-focused position requires a Ph.D. in Political Science and involves a teaching load of 6 courses per academic year. The successful candidate will contribute to student learning through supervision of research and Honors theses, and participate in departmental service responsibilities. The position begins on July 1, 2025, and is renewable every three years.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 6 courses over the academic year.
  • Supervise student research and Honors theses.
  • Participate in departmental administrative and service responsibilities.
  • Contribute to the curriculum with courses in law and courts, including Judicial Process and Constitutional Law.
  • Engage in research and participate in research colloquia.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Political Science by time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses in law and courts.
  • Experience with a range of methodological and theoretical approaches in research.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in comparative judicial systems or constitutional law.
  • Ability to contribute new courses based on areas of expertise.
