About the position

The Assistant Professor position in the Masters of School Administration (MSA) Program at Western Carolina University is a tenure-track role focused on preparing P-12 school leaders in North Carolina. The position involves teaching, conducting scholarship activities, and providing service to the program and university. The MSA program emphasizes equity, social justice, and the application of Improvement Science in educational leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 3 courses per semester (6 per academic year) in the Master's in School Administration program.
  • Advise students in the MSA program.
  • Conduct scholarship activities according to department and university guidelines.
  • Provide program, department, college, and university service.
  • Collaborate with the program director on curriculum coordination and recruitment activities.
  • Review applicants and advise students.
  • Work collaboratively with other educational leadership faculty in the MSA and EdD programs.
  • Serve as a committee member on EdD disquisitions and may occasionally serve as Chair.
  • Perform other related duties as requested within the program, department, college, and university.

Requirements

  • A doctorate in Educational Leadership or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • P-12 school administrator experience.
  • Ability to teach leadership courses in the MSA program (online, face-to-face, and hybrid delivery).
  • Licensure in K-12 school administration or licensure eligibility with interest in remaining current on NC principal licensure requirements.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience teaching online, face-to-face, and hybrid graduate courses.
  • Experience as a principal in a public school.
  • Evidence of or potential for writing, securing, and administering grants related to school leadership.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, leadership, and community/public engagement.
