About the position

The Assistant Professor-Medical Educator position at OHSU involves serving as the Director of Community Engagement and Education for the Department of Surgery. This role focuses on enhancing educational programs, promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B), and engaging with underserved communities. The position requires collaboration with various committees and departments to improve surgical education and community outreach.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Director of Community Engagement and Education for the Department of Surgery.
• Participate in departmental management and serve on institutional committees.
• Act as liaison for the Department of Surgery to the Office of Health Equity for community outreach and engagement.
• Teach students and residents in research settings and through assigned lectures.
• Assist with curriculum development focused on mental health for underserved communities.
• Expand DEI&B curriculum across the Department's training programs.
• Measure the effectiveness of DEI&B learning and ensure educational effectiveness of simulation training.
• Participate in resident interviews and recruiting processes.
• Support faculty engagement in EQUITY, CURE, and Knight Scholarship Programs.
• Mentor research residents in the educational laboratories of the Department of Surgery.

Requirements

• PhD or EdD in Medical Education or relevant discipline.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Record of peer-reviewed publications in scholarly journals.
• Strong collaborative abilities.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience within a department of surgery is preferred but not required.
